The event is a cross-cultural celebration that embraces an international theme, with supporters of the charity and newcomers alike encouraged to sample Asian-inspired cuisine in the lavish surroundings of London's Royal Society.
A new event on the MF calendar, this year's festive dinner takes place on December 8 and coincides with International Human Rights Day, which the MF is marking with a celebration of free speech.
Having toured in some of the world's most notable and unpredictable places such as Kosovo and more recently India, Shazia is well placed to comment on the value of freedom of expression.
"Comedy is about ridiculing things, saying 'look at the insanity in this or the stupidity in that', it makes people look at their prejudices in a different way," says Shazia. "When a comedian says something it's often because they can sense an injustice in it. Most of the time they talk about things that make them feel angry or passionate and by the time it gets to the stage, it will have an impact because it's something people can relate to."
As well as hearing Shazia speak, guests will be able to bid for items in a silent auction, which includes an exclusive designer dress from the fashion emporium Jezebell, owned by Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman and favoured by the likes of Helena Christensen and Richard Ashcroft. A piece of art from the collection of British artist Patrick Hughes will also be open to bids.
Tickets are priced at £65 for individual guests of £600 for a table of ten. To book tickets or for further information contact Carla Cornwell on 020 7696 7755 or e-mail events@torturecare.org.uk.
