Sir Trevor MacDonald makes draw in an MF raffle with a difference
Britain's favourite newscaster makes raffle draw
Former ITN journalist and newsreader Sir Trevor MacDonald made the draw in a raffle with a difference on behalf of the Medical Foundation.
More than 50 works of art were presented to ticket holders who had paid £85 each to have their names entered into the draw, organised by the MF's South West London supporters group.
Every ticket holder was guaranteed a painting with the draw determining which piece of art they were able to take home.
Sir Trevor took the opportunity to criticise the recent erosion of human rights by governments attempting to obtain information from terrorist suspects.
"I
am a great fan of charities like the Medical Foundation which support
those affected by the consequences, such as torture, of the glibly
named 'war on terror.' If we want to continue to call ourselves
civilised, we must support such charities."
Ticket holders included Dr Sian McIver who chose 10 paintings on behalf of staff at the psychiatric hospital where she works in Wales, and Louise and Martyn Forrester who took home 4 pieces.
Geoffrey Archer, who chairs the Richmond-based supporters group and is a local author and a former ITN correspondent, said the event, at the Hampton Hill Playhouse, raised nearly £4,000 for the Medical Foundation's work.
