Healing Services for Iraqi RefugeesCVT’s International Services will soon expand to provide healing services to Iraqi refugees in Jordan. The project will also build the capacity of Jordanian mental health and social service providers to care for torture and war trauma survivors over the long term. One survey found that 21 percent of Iraqi refugees in Jordan experienced highly traumatic events, including torture, rape, kidnapping and witnessing the assassination of relatives and friends. Campaign to Ban TortureCVT, the National Religious Campaign to Ban Torture and Evangelicals for Human Rights have launched the Campaign to Ban Torture: American Voices for American Values. The Campaign calls on the President to issue an Executive Order that unequivocally rejects torture and cruelty. Uniting behind six core principles of humane treatment that reflect deeply cherished American values, nationally respected faith, military, foreign and security policy leaders have endorsed the Declaration of Principles for a Presidential Executive Order on Prisoner Treatment, Torture and Cruelty which provides a clear blueprint for action. Between Worlds: Refugees in Recovery From ViolenceThis special exhibition of art and word is a small window into the lives and cultures of individuals who have been deeply affected by torture and political violence. The exhibit features contemporary and traditional artwork of artists from war-torn countries. September 26-November 21 at the Anderson Center in Red Wing, Minnesota.
