Volunteer Psychologists, Psychotherapists and Counsellors - Scotland

The Medical Foundation Scotland is looking to build a team of experienced, qualified mental health professionals who can contribute on a voluntary basis to our psychotherapeutic work.

Therapists at Medical Foundation Scotland will support survivors to help them deal with the effects of their trauma, such as nightmares, flashbacks, immense pain resulting from physical torture, breakdown of relationships, loss of friends, family and homes. Survivors are rebuilding their lives, sometimes in a hostile environment and learning to live again. You can support survivors to move past their painful histories and look towards the future.

Medical Foundation Scotland is a place where survivors of torture can feel that their experiences are recognised and believed, and where they can safely express grief and anger.

We are looking for qualified psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists from a range of disciplines to support our work with survivors of torture. Depending on your experience you could be involved in assessing the needs of survivors of torture, working within our Child and Family team delivering direct therapeutic support to families, delivering therapy in a group work setting or delivering one to one support to survivors of torture from a diverse range of backgrounds.

You should have experience or willingness to work therapeutically through community language interpreters (training can be provided). In addition to undertaking holistic assessments of clients needs you are expected to maintain clinical records, attend team meetings when required and participate in supervision. A capacity to adapt your psychological model to meet the needs of this population is essential.
