The Medical Foundation is committed to safeguarding your privacy online. The collection and use of personal information on this site is in accordance with the Data Protection Act of 1998.
This privacy policy only covers the Medical Foundation website at www.torturecare.org.uk. It does not apply to pages hosted by other organisations to which we may link and whose privacy policies may differ.

What information does the Medical Foundation collect from me?
We will only collect personal information when you specifically and knowingly provide it to us.
Personal information is information that enables us to identify you, such as your email address, name, title, and address.
We also collect information automatically about your visit to our site. The information obtained in this way, which includes demographic data and browsing patterns, is only used in aggregate form, and as such cannot be used to identify you.

How does The Medical Foundation use my information?
If you indicated that you are interested in receiving regular information about the Medical Foundations work and activities we will send you regular communications, either electronically or otherwise.
Who is collecting your information?
On the Medical Foundation website you are asked for personal information. This information is collected by the Charity Technology Trust (CTT) on behalf of the Medical Foundation. CTT will use this information only to carry out the services it provides for the Medical Foundation and for no other reason. When you are using our secure online donation pages you are going through to a partner company, CAF and it is clear on the donation page when you are going through to the CAF site.
With whom does the Medical Foundation share your information?
As a general rule, the Medical Foundation will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information, except when we have your permission or under special circumstances, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it. When you are using our secure online donation pages you are going through to a partner company and the information you give such as your credit card number and contact information is provided so that the transaction can take place.
What are my choices regarding, collection, use and distribution of my information?
If you indicated that you are interested in receiving regular information about the Medical Foundation's work (by ticking the box labelled Please tick this box if you are happy to have us contact you by means other than email) we will send you communications regarding the Medical Foundation's work and activities, either electronically or otherwise. In addition, we may send you direct mail that we feel may be of interest to you.
From time to time, the Medical Foundation agrees with other likeminded organisations to share supporters' lists, for the mutual benefit. We do not do this with e-mail lists. if you do not tick the box labelled One of our most effective ways of finding new supporters... then we will not pass on your information to anyone.
What is the Medical Foundation's policy on allowing me to access, update, correct, or delete my personal information?
The accuracy of your individual identifying information is important to the Medical Foundation. If you do not wish to receive any information, news or offers from the Medical Foundation, or would like to update or correct the information we hold about you, please email us at info@torturecare.org.uk, or call us on 020 7 697 7788 with the details.
Upon request we will give you all details of personal information held by the Medical Foundation, once identity has been satisfied. Incorrect information will be deleted or amended promptly. Requests will be responded to within 20 working days, unless there are exceptional circumstances, and even then we will let you know what is happening with your request.
What security precautions are in place to protect the loss, misuse, or alteration of my information?
When you make a donation to the Medical Foundation, CAFs secure server software (SSL) encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us. Furthermore, we have implemented industry standard security mechanisms and procedures to protect data from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration and destruction.
When you sign up to receive the Medical Foundation electronic newsletter, your personally identifiable information is collected by CTT (Charity Technology Trust) on behalf of the Medical Foundation. Both the Medical Foundation and CTT take steps to ensure that your information is treated securely. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, the Medical Foundation cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.

The Medical Foundation is a human rights organisation that exists to enable survivors of torture and organised violence to engage in a healing process to assert their own human dignity and worth. Our concern for the health and well-being of torture survivors and their families is directed towards providing medical and social care, practical assistance, and psychological and physical therapy. It is also our mission to raise public awareness about torture and its consequences.
