The Edinburgh Local Group meets regularly and organises social and fund-raising events throughout the year, and they maintain an Internet "Googlegroup'. They take a particular interest in the work of the MF's Glasgow Centre and host Medical Foundation clients at the Edinburgh Book Festival every year. They publish a twice-yearly Newsletter to known supporters. But at their Awareness Week in January 2008, members met several supporters who were unaware of the group and its activities. Perhaps you haven't met up with them yet? They'd love to meet you. If you would like to join the group or even if you would just like to receive the newsletter, please contact Sarah Sandow at lg-edinburgh@torturecare.org.uk

Virtually Yours...

The MF Edinburgh group at Google Groups is a free, easy to use service. Its not a list that bombards you with rubbish or chat! You can use it to send anything of interest to the rest of the group or to ask for assistance with any MF related project you are doing.

Have You Time For Torture?: Awareness Week 2008

To mark the Edinburgh Support Group's fifth anniversary, and to encourage new membership, a Medical Foundation Awareness Week was held in January. Events included:

A week long exhibition on the Medical Foundation at St Augustine's Church.

A mural by the Artists for Peace & Justice (pictured below)

A service at St Augustine's with personal readings from members of Medical Foundation Scotland's "All Write" group

A public meeting with Patrick Harvie MSP, Chair of the Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Refugees and Asylum Seekers and Norma McKinnon, Manager of MF Scotland.

A Petition calling for the UK government to stop detaining survivors of torture.

On a lighter note there was curling at Kinross and a delicious fundraising dinner!

Water of Leith MF Walk, Saturday 31st May 2008

An alternative to the Great Scottish Walk, as registration for this event has become very expensive. Sponsorship/Donation forms will be sent to all who express an interest, and walkers may donate or collect sponsors. The route is from Stockbridge to Colinton, and the various distance options are 4.5, 6, 8 or 9.3 miles. Contact Sally Macpherson cjsm@barntongatedrive.freeserve.co.uk if you wish to take part. Of course, you can still enter the Great Scottish walk http://www.greatscottishwalk.com/entry/index.php as an individual as well, and send the proceeds to the Medical Foundation.
