Once again in 2007 we comfortably exceeded our fund-raising target of
£2000, sending headquarters a total of £4078. The largest contribution was
the Huguette and Friends evening in St. Luke's Church on 30th November when
the local chanteuse sang French songs in her inimitable style and her
friends read a wide range of English poetry. Despite it being a wet night
this raised over £900 and was enjoyed by those present. The next largest
sum was was a £600 grant from Student Rag Week, for which we are grateful;
we will not be receiving one this year. Other successful money-raisers
include the Woodsfords' Simple Lunch, an informative and well-presented talk
on the life and work of the artist Renoir given by Ninette, the popular
Ramble and Tea and a sale at Sue Bradshaw's house. If the £5000 donation
made direct to headquarters by a Cambridge resident unknown to us be
included it would more than double our total, but we cannot claim any
credit.

It came at a fortunate time, as the Medical Foundation experienced a funding
crisis last year when several major contributors all withdrew. Most of you
will have read Simon Carruth's explanation in the January edition of The
Supporter.

The crisis emphasises the crucial part Groups play in raising funds for the MF, whose work spreads ever wider in the UK, and is, alas, more and more needed. So please assist us in our events as well as you are able, and bring your friends along. Our planning meetings are held roughly every other month, and we would like to see new faces, at least occasionally, to generate new ideas. The next one is April 28th 8pm at 101 Gilbert Road.

The Norwich group started 2007 in fine style with a screening of the film "Blind Flight". Over 200 people came to see the film which tells the story of the kidnapping of Brian Keenan and his subsequent captivity with John McCarthy in Beruit in the 1980s.
