Fund for the Future

Why I support the Medical Foundation
In 1986 my life changed dramatically when I was kidnapped and held hostage in Beirut for five years.
When I was released people lauded me, celebrated me, but there are people who had suffered far worse and lost much more than I did; men, women and children seized from their homes to be abused and damaged in body and mind.
Degradation beyond belief, but, thanks to the Medical Foundation, not beyond repair. When I was first introduced to the work of this unique charity, I saw a team of professionals taking this matter in hand, and giving survivors of torture expert practical care. It gave me a great sense of relief to learn that torture did not have to be the end of all hope.
Because I felt such an immediate affinity with the work of the Foundation, I have supported it since then in every way I can.
Why I set up the Fund for the Future
This year sees the Medical Foundation celebrate the twentieth year of its existence. It's a landmark deserving of major recognition, which is why I decided to set up a vital new Fund on its behalf.
Known as the Fund for the Future, it will appeal for legacy pledges. This will enable the organisation to plan ahead, confident that funds will be there for survivors of torture in need.
Remembering the MF in your Will
If you decide to remember the Medical Foundation in your Will, your pledge will be allocated to my Fund. Your legacy will be a powerful contribution to the fight against torture and the devastation it causes. This is a very important decision, as it will have a tangible impact on the lives of many. It is a brave question to confront, too, as for most of us, it is not easy to look so far beyond our own lifetimes. But please, have the courage and vision to think ahead and remember the difference you can make.
I hope I have inspired you to consider supporting my Fund. If so, please contact a member of the Fundraising Department on 020 7697 7788 for a confidential discussion. Alternatively, you can send an email to legacies@torturecare.org.uk.
