Film Screening and Q&A; Tortured Truth

15th November, 2009 at 2.30pm, Chapter Arts Centre, Market Rd, Cardiff CF5
Hosted by: Wales South East regional group
In La Maison des Journalistes, a Parisian refuge, fifteen men and women get shelter, protection, and support for six months while they wait to obtain political asylum in France. As the story unfolds we find out about the house and its residents, how they pass the time and face the difficulties of their forced exile. Four residents tell us their stories: an Iraqi, a Haitian, a Burmese, and a Cuban. Like all the residents here, they suffer the solitude and isolation of their forced exile, the memories of their torture and persecution, and separation from their families.
In helping journalists to cope with their forced exile, La Maison des Journalistes pays homage to others throughout the world who dare to express themselves freely in the exercise of their profession, risking persecution, torture, and even death.
Following the screening there will be a Q&A session by the director and producer Christine Garabedian.
